THE MUSEUM OF SPECIAL EDUCATION IN LEVOČA

The museum has been organizationally integrated under the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information in Bratislava since January 1, 2014. This Centre is a contributory organization directly managed by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

Additionally, the museum has been registered in the Central Register of Museums and Galleries of the Slovak Republic since February 26, 2014.

It is a unique institution that has documented the history of special education in its entirety, focusing primarily on four key areas: visual, auditory, physical, and mental disabilities.

Currently, it operates as a specialized museum with a nationwide focus. It houses comprehensive documentation in the fields of special education and special pedagogy, as well as resources related to the education of students with disabilities. The museum is dedicated to collecting, preserving, professionally developing, administering, and disclosing material documents that reflect the history of special education and the experiences of individuals with disabilities.

The Museum of Special Education fulfills its mission through a variety of activities, including:

  • collection of materials,
  • documentary-registration and protection,
  • cultural-presentational,
  • educational programs and consulting services.

The museum features:

  • a modern, interactive exhibition,
  • a depositary,
  • an archive of documentary materials,
  • exhibition rooms,
  • a projection room.
