THE MUSEUM OF SPECIAL EDUCATION IN LEVOČA

The museum has been organizationally integrated under the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information in Bratislava since January 1, 2014. The Centre is a directly managed contributory organization of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic.

It has also been registered in the Central Register of Museums and Galleries of the Slovak Republic since February 26, 2014.

The institution is unique. From its origin up to the present, it maps the history of special education as a whole, especially the four basic fields – visual, auditory, physical, and mental disability.

It is a specialized museum with a nationwide scope at present. It has comprehensive documentation in the field of special education, special pedagogy, and the education of disabled pupils. It is specialized to collect, protect, professionally develop, administrate, use, and disclosure, material documents from the history of special education and disabled people.

The Museum of Special Education carries out its mission through different activities:

  • collecting,
  • documentary-registration and protection,
  • cultural-presentational,
  • educational and consulting.

The museum has:

  • the modern, interactive exhibition,
  • depositary,
  • archive of documentary materials,
  • exhibition rooms,
  • projection room.
